About

Vineyards, rescue teams, and small businesses. Most of my working life has been spent where planning meets consequences.

Pagosa Springs

My wife and I bought a house in Pagosa Springs in July 2025, along with our dog, Saxby. We spend every free minute we can in the San Juans.

I joined the Archuleta County Planning Commission in February 2026. I volunteer with Upper San Juan Search and Rescue, coach the local freeride team at Wolf Creek, and coach at CrossFit Pagosa.

Background

I earned a BA in fine arts from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire in 2005, then went to work in wine. From 2007 to 2016 I was owner and winemaker at Canyon Wind Cellars in Palisade, a family winery growing its own grapes. In 2015 the Colorado Association of Viticulture and Enology named me Grower of the Year. From 2013 to 2017 I chaired the Colorado Wine Industry Development Board, a seat the Governor appoints.

In 2016 I started Tin Sheets, which builds the direct-to-consumer marketing and technology wineries run on.

From 2018 to January 2025 I was president and a field team leader with El Paso County Search and Rescue in Colorado Springs. I’m an EMT and a NASAR SARTECH II, and I handle a search dog. From 2020 to 2024 I also served as an operations section chief on the Pikes Peak Regional Type 3 incident management team. In 2022 I co-founded Anyone Not Ready, an emergency preparedness and wilderness rescue training company, and ran its operations until 2024.

In 2025 I published Operational Grit: Leadership Lessons from the Field, drawn from rescues, business turnarounds, and crisis response.

Outside of work

I’m a CrossFit Level 1 trainer. At 6’5” I’ve made my peace with pull-ups and the rower. Most days off end up on skis, on a trail with Saxby, or both.
